Muscular Dystrophy Association Boot Drive
Help us fight Muscular Dystrophy by filling the boot. Every Labor Day Weekend our firefighters line the streets to help support the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in their fight against neuromuscular disease. Please read the following exert from the article titled Hope Through Research on MDA's official website:
EVENTS

"MDA is pursuing the full spectrum of research approaches toward combating neuromuscular diseases, from fundamental discoveries of the causes of disease to clinical trials of potential treatments. MDA also helps spread this scientific knowledge and train the next generation of scientific leaders by funding national and international research conferences, clinical research training grants and career development grants.

MDA’s Research Grant programs support the world’s leading neuromuscular researchers — accomplished veterans and rising stars — in their efforts to reveal the causes and to develop treatments for the more than 40 neuromuscular diseases under MDA’s purview. In the 1950s, MDA mainly sponsored research into basic muscle and nerve biology as nothing was known about any of these diseases. By the 1980s, as research had started to reveal more intriguing details, MDA began to focus on the genetic causes of our diseases. Now, in the 21st century, our research has resulted in many promising leads for therapy development and MDA has new programs exclusively focused on moving those therapies in development forward. Meanwhile, MDA maintains its commitment toward supporting basic research, as this provides the ideas that are transformed into the new, promising treatments of the future.

MDA funds only the very best research. Research projects proposed to MDA are routed through a rigorous process of review by our expert advisory committees before MDA selects the most promising applications for funding."
If you are interested in supporting the MDA, please visit their website HERE or visit one our many firefighters this Labor Day Weekend to help fill the boot.
